It’s a big, complex story, so it’s a deliberate read. I think this series might be a bit like THE BONE SEASON for me – that it takes a bit for me to get into the world and characters, but once I’m in, I really enjoy it.Ĭertainly, this was a very immersive, addictive read. My opinions on JADE WAR, the second book in the Green Bone Saga, are thankfully a lot easier to work out! And were more consistently positive. Jade, Kekon’s most prized resource, could make them rich – or give them the edge they’d need to topple their rivals.įaced with threats on all sides, the Kaul family is forced to form new and dangerous alliances, confront enemies in the darkest streets and the tallest office towers, and put honour aside in order to do whatever it takes to ensure their own survival – and that of all the Green Bones of Kekon. Powerful foreign governments and mercenary criminal kingpins alike turn their eyes on the island nation. On the island of Kekon, the Kaul family is locked in a violent feud for control of the capital city and the supply of magical jade that endows trained Green Bone warriors with supernatural powers they alone have possessed for hundreds of years.īeyond Kekon’s borders, war is brewing. The pair had previously appeared in a series of four films as the characters produced by MGM between 19. The film features an uncredited cameo by Margaret Rutherford as Miss Marple and Stringer Davis as her friend Mr Stringer. Poirot is given buffoonish characteristics, while still remaining a brilliant detective. The film varies significantly from the novel and emphasises comedy, the specialty of director Frank Tashlin. The part of Poirot had originally been intended for Zero Mostel but the film was delayed because Agatha Christie objected to the script amongst the things objected to was the intention to put in a bedroom scene with Hercule Poirot. Drewe Henley as Bowling Alley Attendant. When a woman named Betty Barnard becomes the next victim, detective Hercule Poirot suspects that Sir Carmichael Clarke could be in grave danger.Īs Poirot and Captain Hastings look into the crimes, a beautiful woman with an interesting monogram named Amanda Beatrice Cross becomes the focus of their investigation, at least until she leaps into the Thames. Murders by Agatha Christie.Īlbert Aachen, a clown with a unique diving act, is found dead, the murder weapon happens to be a poison dart. The Alphabet Murders is a 1965 British detective film directed by Frank Tashlin and starring Tony Randall as Hercule Poirot. I gave this book four stars because it kept me interested, had an interesting plot, and created suspense. But, I think that if you do some research beforehand you will be able to understand the whole story. So I had to research all the Lords and their roles in Feudal Japan. For example, when the author was talking about all the Lords, it got confusing who was who. I think that in order to fully understand the book you must do some research. Erik Christian Haugaard did a good job of adding suspense however and portraying the time period, but, he left me confused at some points. This got me interested, wondering what was to come. In the beginning, the main characters parents were killed leaving him with nothing but a bamboo sword. I thought that "The Samurai's Tale" was a good book. The poem isn’t dated as to when it was written, but from information given I’m assuming it was written in or around 1968. The poem is written as a love letter to a woman, but it’s not an ordinary love letter it focuses mainly of the trials and tribulations that come with love, the difficulties of staying together, and society’s outlook on homosexuality. It’s called “Martha” and is Lorde’s first public coming out as a lesbian. If you read it aloud you can hear Lorde’s anger, but it works within the poem. He wasn’t too fond of the poem, but I loved it! It’s explicitly sexual and talks a lot about dirty politics. The first is “jessehelms.” I was first introduced to this poem a few months ago in an American Lit class I took (with the professor who’s overseeing my IS). So since there’s too many poems to talk about, I’ll just focus on 2 specific poems from the anthology. You’re probably thinking “this is boring” and maybe it sounds boring, but once you get to reading her stuff, you’ll know why I chose this topic. I’m actually doing an independent study (IS) on Lorde’s poetry mainly focusing on how Lorde uses her poetry to show her identities and making a political stand. The anthology doesn’t include all her books of poetry, but it includes most of them. So I’m currently reading selected poems from Audre Lorde’s collection.
